MigraVoice Superpower: Amplifying Migrant Voices in European Media

Shifting the narrative and highlighting migrant expertise

Today, we at Raseef22 are excited to announce our partnership with MigraVoice to launch the MigraVoice Superpower Community. This cross-border initiative, co-funded by the European Union, aims to tackle the exclusion and dehumanization of migrants and refugees in European media.

For too long, migrant and refugee voices have been marginalized, either silenced or portrayed solely as victims or threats, with little attention given to their expertise and personal stories. MigraVoice was founded to change this dynamic. By building a network of migrant-background experts and connecting them with European journalists, MigraVoice ensures these voices are no longer absent or misrepresented but are at the forefront of shaping media narratives. Using an innovative digital platform, experts across various fields can now serve as reliable sources for media outlets.

At Raseef22, we’ve always championed diverse perspectives, and joining this project is a natural extension of our mission to challenge stereotypes and amplify marginalized voices, from the Arab world to the diaspora.

Building the Superpower Community

MigraVoice was born from a clear and urgent need: the media landscape across Europe often lacks the very voices that should be central to discussions on migration. Migrants and refugees possess the expertise, experiences, and stories that matter most, yet they rarely have a seat at the table when narratives are shaped. MigraVoice changes that by providing a user-friendly platform where European journalists can find and collaborate with migrant experts.

This community is not just about connection—it’s about transforming the media ecosystem. Through this platform, we aim to foster more inclusive, accurate, and representative storytelling in European media.

What to Expect at the Launch Event

To celebrate the launch of MigraVoice, we are hosting an online webinar on September 18, 2024, at 16:00 CET. The event will feature migrant-background experts and journalists who are reshaping media narratives across Europe. A live demonstration of the platform will show how journalists can quickly and easily connect with knowledgeable, trusted sources. It’s an excellent opportunity for both media professionals and migrant experts to explore how they can engage with the platform and be part of this movement.

MigraVoice doesn’t just amplify migrant voices; it provides them with a platform that enables their expertise and stories to reach the broader European media. This initiative aligns perfectly with Raseef22’s core mission of fostering dialogue, inclusion, and understanding across communities.

Our Role in MigraVoice

As a proud partner in this initiative, Raseef22 has worked closely with organizations like Maldita.es (Spain), Media Diversity Institute Global (Belgium), The London Story (Netherlands), Are We Europe (Belgium), and Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso Transeuropa (Italy) to bring this project to life. Throughout this process, we’ve shared our expertise in digital and independent media, focusing on how these tools can bridge gaps, amplify underrepresented voices, and challenge exclusionary narratives.

By collaborating with media and tech professionals across Europe, we’ve been able to share our journey of building community-driven journalism and emphasize the importance of accessible platforms that enable meaningful participation in the media.
